12 Things to be Grateful for This Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving GratitudeIt’s that time of year where we gather with our families and cook a turkey, watch football and eat lots of pie.  We might fight, we might laugh and we might even cry, but one thing that is universal about this time of year is gratitude.

No matter what has happened with the economy or in the world – and lets face it, we have been turned inside out and upside down – there is still always something to be grateful for. Although I believe we should count our blessings all year long, this is the time of year we tend to truly focus on those blessings.

12 Things to be Grateful for This Thanksgiving

  1. The gift of time.  Time to spend with our families and friends.  We all work hard, but be sure that when you look at whatever watch you are wearing you take advantage of the time you can spend with your loved ones.
  2. The gift of health. We don’t always feel our best every single day, but over all, we need to take care of our bodies and be grateful for the gift of health that we do have.
  3. The gift of family. Nothing replaces family. Always be grateful for the family that you have and cherish them.
  4. The gift of friends. Friends are the ones that laugh with us and cry with us and cheer us on and up. Be grateful for friends.
  5. The gift of love. Love comes in many forms. Whether it is between spouses, a parent and child or even between an owner and a pet the gift of love is one we should never take for granted.
  6. The gift of laughter. Laughter always makes things better. Have you ever cried so hard you ended up laughing? Be grateful that you can always find something to laugh about.
  7. The gift of compassion. By our very nature we are a compassionate people. Keep that in mind during this holiday for those that are less fortunate than us.
  8. The gift of prayer. Prayer is so powerful. Use it when it is needed and even when it is not needed and be thankful that there is someone who is listening.
  9. The gift of life. We are given just one life to live.  Live it well and to the best of your ability. Always do the right thing and it will come back to you tenfold.
  10. The gift of giving. Be grateful for those little things that you can give, and they don’t have to be monetary. They can be a hug, a touch or even a kind word. Every little thing counts.
  11.  The gift of freedom. When you think of other countries and the wars they are enduring, imagine how lucky we are to live in a country where we have the freedom that we have.
  12. The gift of charity. Charity is something we should all practice. It doesn’t matter how big or small.  Remember, we lead and teach by example, and those that see us do will then also want to do. Be grateful for the gift of charity and give this holiday season.
