3 Words Diamond Buyers Never Wants to Hear You Say

Diamond BuyersAs a diamond buyer, there are lots of things we love to hear our customers say. We love to hear you say how happy you are with our service and we love to hear you say how pleased you are with the price you received for your merchandise.  We love to hear you say you are going to send all your friends to us and that this was an easy and very good experience for you.

There are also three words that we never want to hear you say.

“I don’t know.”

Why Diamond Buyers Don’t Like ‘I Don’t Know’

‘I don’t know’ means so many things to a diamond buyer, and diamond buyers are people of action.  This is why we are in this business.  When you are buying or selling diamonds, jewelry or watches you can’t hesitate, because the deal of a lifetime could slip through your fingers.  You learn how to make crucial decisions very quickly. Sometimes they are good and sometimes they are bad, but you learn from the bad and pat yourself on the back for the good and then go to the next deal.

The Meanings of ‘I Don’t Know’

  1. I don’t know if I am ready to sell my items.
  2. I don’t know what I want as far as price.
  3. I don’t know what I paid for the items.
  4. I don’t know why I am here.
  5. I don’t know if I am going to sell it to you or not.
  6. I don’t know if I like you.
  7. I don’t know if I am going to visit other diamond buyers.
  8. I don’t know if the price you are giving me is fair.
  9. I don’t know if I trust you.
  10. I just don’t know!

How to Combat the ‘I Don’t Know’

I have been in this game for a really long time.  I have learned when a customer sits across from me whether they are looking for a friend to talk to or trying to get the most they can for what they have or if they are just shopping around.  I have learned how to meander around the hated waters of ‘I don’t know.’

And, here’s the thing.  I love ALL my customers.  It sounds hoaky and untrue, but it’s not.  I love them all.  I’m not saying there aren’t times when I want to kill a few of them when they change their minds or that they don’t always drive me crazy, but my customers are my friends, and I listen to what they have to say. I care about their lives, their families and their jewelry.

I want them to give them the most that I can for their diamonds and jewelry. I encourage my customers to tell me what they want for their items so that I CAN offer them the most that I can, or at the very least, be honest enough to let them know that we are so far apart that they need to go somewhere else.

And, another thing is that I respect other diamond buyers. If a piece comes to me but I can’t make it work then I hope one of my fellow diamond buyers can and I always refer that business out.  I prefer to send my customers to people I know and trust then to have them shop their goods out willy nilly without knowing who they are dealing with.

One more thing…if you aren’t ready to sell…don’t. It’s okay. Maybe next time.

But, instead of hearing ‘I don’t know’ I would much rather hear the truth, don’t worry, I can take it!
