As much fun as it is to “window shop” on eBay, we all have lives and I don’t know about you, but I don’t have time to page through 29 pages of ‘estate diamond necklace’. And, if you are anything like me, you will get distracted by the pretty pictures and click on them, which then will lead to a sellers store and a whole slew of things you weren’t even looking for. Before you know it, hours have gone by and your wife has thrown the dinner out because it’s cold and the kids have gone to bed and it’s 4 in the morning. Whew….

Shopping on eBay can be daunting. Heck, selling on eBay can be daunting, but there is no doubt that if you are a collector of fine estate jewelry; eBay is a great marketplace. Jewelry Shopping For Sport – Where Jonathan’s Diamond Buyer Likes To Shop

Jewelry BoxI love estate jewelry and although when I go jewelry shopping I try to focus on never buying new, unless it is something that is custom made in the shop at Jonathan’s Fine Jewelers, I stick to eBay to find my watches and places like 1st Dibs and other auction sites to find those special pieces that can round out not only what I have in the showroom, but also what my wife has in her jewelry box.

I know there are many people who think that I buy a piece of jewelry or a diamond for a low ball price and then turn around and sell it for a 1,000% profit the next day.  If that were true, I would be long retired by now on an island in the Bahamas sipping a Mai Tai on the beach.  If only it were that easy.  [Read more...]

Antique Engagement Rings – Go Antique or Go Home

Antique Engagement RingsI love a shiny diamond in a shiny setting that is all blinged out with diamonds and such, but there is something about antique engagement rings that have so much style and substance that I can’t help but wonder why more people don’t go this route when they are buying engagement rings.

First, to be considered an antique, the piece must be at least 100 years old.  Now, you can buy something that is a reproduction, in other words, it was made to look old, but that is not the same as an actual antique.  Think about it…each of these antique engagement rings tells a story.  Wouldn’t it be cool to add your story to the timeline of the story that has already unfolded?
